As we prepare to commemorate the Octocentenary of Francis’ ProtoRule, this year invites to reflect on the themes of Dialogue and Mission. These ideas are inevitably context-sensitive and thus subjective: their understanding depend heavily on the prevalent paradigms of times.

Our saints this year provide us a representative survey of three noteworthy chapters in Franciscan raison d'être: Saint Bonaventure’s thoughts reflect those of an age closest to our Father Francis; Saint Lawrence of Brindisi expresses the Franciscan spirit in a particular Capuchin voice during a time that called for zeal and bravery; and the life and apostolic work of Blessed Jacques Abuna of Ghazir gives us a a fine example to the praxis of Capuchin Franciscan identity closest to our age.

It is the hope of this year’s event that a focused reflection on the ideas and example of these formidable brothers may aid us in our own journey to grow in our faithfulness to our vocation as Capuchin Friars Minor.
